Role: Product Designer

OpenAgent is a startup that helps Australian homeowners find the best real estate agents to help them sell their property.

This project aimed to help potential home buyers see new properties before anyone else by signing up for the OpenAgent Buyer's Network. The potential home buyer can enquire about the property to the agent or the homeowner if the property is not on the market. This experience would only be available as a mobile responsive view.

For this project, I worked alongside a product manager, two front-end engineers and a backend engineer.

Discovery

I worked with my product manager to identify potential challenges homebuyers would have when looking for properties.

User challenges:

• It's hard for users to know/see properties before they get listed on any real estate portal
• It's hard for users to see/ be aware of available off-market properties
• The ability to speak directly to the homeowner without having a real estate agent be part of the process

Below is a user story I created to help me better understand the user's needs.

Defining

As a starting point, the product manager created some initial wireframes. I started by sketching out a few ideas, then made a user flow.

Development & Delivery

The solution is a simple and functional MVP that allows OpenAgent users to see properties before anyone else and have a fair go on their property-buying journey. Below are key screens for the property feed I created in Figma.

Exploring Properties

Users could see early access and recommended properties before they hit the market.

Off-market Properties

Users could see off-market properties not listed on any major real estate portal.

Requesting Information

Users could learn more about the property from the agent or the homeowner.

Styles & Components

As part of this project, I worked on updating the brand style guide and components for OpenAgent that I used in this project.

Some of the changes to the brand style guide were:

• Colours
• Typography
• Iconography
• Updating existing components

I recommended using a soft 8pt grid rule to effectively create components that were consistent across and would be easy to implement.
